Withdrawal
Drug-Free Withdrawal - When an individual has substance abuse problems, there are certain drugs, such as heroin and alcohol, from which he can’t normally stop consumption without considerable physical discomfort. Following a medical evaluation and proper approval by a physician, a Narconon facility provides a constantly safe and 24-hour care procedure. |
| Ever since its early beginnings inside the Arizona State Prison walls, the Narconon drug rehabilitation program has always been successful without resorting to alternative drugs. However, the early program established by William Benitez did not deal directly with the traumatic throes of drug withdrawal.
In response to this need, L. Ron Hubbard researched and developed methods to help drug addicts through the anguish of withdrawal without the use of potentially addictive drugs. |
 |
In 1973, Narconon staff adopted this "drug-free withdrawal" procedure, using vitamin and mineral supplements along with special techniques to ease the mental and physical symptoms.
Detoxification
The Narconon® New Life Detoxification Procedure - The unique biophysical drug detoxification procedure used in Narconon centers removes drug residues and other toxic substances from the addict’s body. Such residues are stored and locked in the fatty tissues throughout the body, but may be released at any time into the bloodstream, even years after the person stopped taking drugs.

|
These specific residues may cause cravings for more drugs, hence the need to eliminate them from the body. To do so, an exact regimen of exercise, sauna and nutritional supplements is applied, which helps remove the fatty tissues in the body containing the drug residues.
To accelerate the drug elimination process, the Narconon New Life Detoxification program has a controlled and monitored dry sauna, where the drug addicts go to remove the drug residues from their body. |
Life Improvement Courses
A series of Narconon Program life improvement courses are studied to put the individual back in control of his or her life. Choose a course book for additional information.
1. The Narconon® Program Communications Course teaches therapeutic training routines, which extroverts the student and gets him into better communication with others and with the environment.
This first course is particularly important for the student, since it provides him the necessary tools to express himself, regardless of the situation at hand. There are eight training routines on this course (called “TRs”). Each one of them teaches a specific drill, such as how communication works, how to get understood by others and how to communicate with others.

2. The New Life Detoxification Program Delivery Manual prepares the student to the New Life Detoxification Procedure.
As the student undergoes the Narconon drug detoxification program, he keeps a daily record of all the events and changes he experiences in the sauna. This course provides a comprehensive set of grids and tables to facilitate note taking. It also includes large sections where the student can keep track of his personal experiences. |
 |
3. The Narconon® Program Learning Improvement Course gives the student the ability to study and retain knowledge along with the ability to recognize and overcome barriers for both studying and learning.
The student is made aware of the three study barriers. The course allows him to fully understand a word searched in the dictionary, how to do demonstrations of concepts so that he can easily grasp them and how to spot and handle any hardships in his study.
This course enables the students to improve their learning skills and overcome study barriers, an ability that they can afterwards apply for the rest of their lives.

4A & 4B. The Narconon® Program Perception and Communication Course gives the student the ability to fully communicate with others and his environment.
The student really enhances his communication skills by redoing the eight Training Routines, which he had completed earlier in the program. Following this, the student does a series of new exercises which fully extroverts him and gets his attention off himself and onto his environment. Such exercises greatly raise the student’s perception and ability to handle the environment and the ways to control life. Furthermore, the student is in charge of helping another student do the exercises. He takes responsibility for helping another, which increases his own sense of responsibility and his ability to handle life and help others.

5. The Narconon® Program Ups and Downs in Life Course gives the student the ability to spot and handle those influences in his environment that would cause him to lose any gains he has made.
The student learns the characteristics of the social personality as well as those of the anti-social personality, so that he is capable of spotting the differences between the two. This will particularly be useful when the time comes to make an educated decision on the types of friends and associates he wishes to have. Completing this course makes the student less susceptible to those who would influence him to revert to drugs.

6. The Narconon® Program Personal Values and Integrity Course gives the student the data he needs to improve his survival potential.
It teaches the student the eight survival dynamics, gives him valuable knowledge about personal ethics, honesty and integrity and shows him how to correct contra-survival behavior by ridding himself of past harmful deeds.
|
 |
7. The Narconon® Program Changing Conditions in Life Course gives the student the exact step-by-step technology he needs to improve his life.
This ethics technology was developed by L. Ron Hubbard and explains exactly how to apply these steps to improve conditions in life. It also teaches the student how to repair previous bad conditions and how he can apply this knowledge and keep winning. |
 |
8. The Narconon® Program THE WAY TO HAPPINESS® Course teaches the student a non-sectarian moral code which is a guide to living a happy life based on the book "The Way to Happiness™".
